Jolla :The first smartphone that works on the Sailfish OS

A group of people had left the Finnish company Nokia and engineered a new smartphone Jolla that will hit markets on November 27. The Finnish telecom company DNA will be first to launch the phone.

In 2011, a group of software engineers at Nokia who were working on the MeeGo mobile platform but later abandoned by the company halfway through the project, quit the company and formed a new firm called Jolla Limited. Jolla smartphone works on the Sailfish operating system. The company had declared last March that the Jolla smartphones would hit the markets this year itself. Officials had revealed that the Jolla phone had already received advance booking from 136 countries.

Jolla confirmed the news on Twitter that the world’s first Jolla phone will be sold on November 27. Jolla’s website notes that the Jolla smartphone is priced at Euros 399 (approx. INR 34,000).

The company plans to handover 450 pre-booked Jolla phones on November 27, and the rest would be available at DNA Kauppa outlets in early December, the website said.

Jolla has already announced the specifications of the Jolla smartphone, which include a 4.5-inch with 540×960 pixels display; 1.4GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor; 1GB of RAM; 16GB inbuilt storage which is expandable via microSD card (no maximum capacity mentioned), and 2100mAh battery.

The Jolla smartphone will sport an 8-megapixel autofocus rear camera, while there is a 2-megapixel front-facing camera as well. It also features changeable smart covers.
